Miguel Miramontes Carmona was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, in 1918. After carrying out several offices (tailoring, jewelry and carving religious images ) he decided to dedicate himself to the sculpture and moved to Mexico City to study this career in the Academy of San Carlos. During his stage as a student, he suffered numerous economic penalties.   Disciple of sculptors like Fidias Elizondo, Luis Ortiz Monasterio and Ignacio Asúnsolo, being only student in his generation, obtained in 1952 the scholarship that Beaux Arts granted its best students.   He went back to Guadalajara in 1958 to show his work at the Oliveti Gallery. It was then requested from him to become in charge of the Workshop of Sculpture and other matters in the just founded School of Plastic Arts of the University of Guadalajara, where he was a professor for 30 years, being therefore teacher initiator of several of the sculptors from his natal city, among them Tijelino, Estanislao Contreras and Rafael Zamarripa. Knowing the diverse sculptoric techniques, is in the direct plaster modeling where his ability and rapidity are greater and they have allowed to carry out monumental sculptures and excellent portraits made in crystal of rock, wood, bronze, granite and terra-cotta.   Good connoisseur of the history of Mexico, has honored with his work a great number of distinguished Mexicans and portrayed  personages of the political, cultural and religious environment.
